South Luangwa National Park
Regarded as one of Africa’s best safari parks and widely recognised as the home of the walking safari, South Luangwa National Park is Zambia’s prime wildlife destination, home to an abundance of game and beauty of habitat that is rarely seen in other game reserves throughout the continent.
It is 9050km² and the concentration of game around the river is of the highest in Africa.

Nestling at the southern end of the Great rift valley, the ‘South Park’ as it is known is divided by the impressive Luangwa River that cuts through from North to South creating vast oxbow lakes that spread over floodplains providing the lifeline to the area. The Park has become increasingly known over the past few years for its unspoilt beauty and varied, exclusive habitats.

Walking safaris: Were pioneered in this park and are still one of the best ways of experiencing the African wilderness. The park has 60 animal species and 400 different bird species. This is one of the premier wilderness areas in Africa, famed for its seclusion and natural beauty.

The park is well-known for large herds of elephants: Some herds numbering up to 70. Buffalo and various antelope species are prolific throughout the park. In the river and adjoining pools, hippos and crocodiles can be seen in great numbers. The zebras peculiar to Luangwa can be seen everywhere: their stripes are evenly spaced as opposed to broad light stripes with a faint stripe in-between.
