David Livingstone
Museum - Birthplace of the Famous Explorer Surrounded by parkland
and nestling on the banks of the Clyde at Blantyre stands the
birthplace of Scotland's most celebrated explorer and missionary.
This eighteenth century building, which once housed 24 families,
has been transformed into an exciting and lively award winning
museum. It depicts Livingstones life from his early childhood
working in the cotton mills of Blantyre to his African adventures.
These are dramatically illustrated with the aid of various pieces
of his navigational and medical equipment, interspersed with African
artifacts. One of the focal points of the centre is the 'single-end'
in which Livingstone was born, containing many of the original
furnishings of the time.
